The artist known as PAIN is a native of Dalton Georgia. PAIN’s artistic education was mainly self-taught until February of 2008 when he began taking private lessons with Morris Mitchell, a retired professor of Fine Arts with more than 40 years of experience teaching at Ringling School of Art and Design in Sarasota, FL, as well as being a celebrated studio artist in his own right.

PAIN began painting when he was 12 years old. As soon as he put that first stroke of paint on paper with the intent to make something original his artistic journey had begun. The origin of PAIN’s fascination with art stemmed from an interest in comic books, horror movies, stories by Edgar Allen Poe, H.P. Lovecraft, and Clive Barker, as well as from music such as Danzig, Led Zeppelin, and The Who. The visual influences are obvious in PAIN’s early work, which includes horror/fantasy related imagery with a healthy dose of angst. As time passed Pain whittled down his imagery into abstract works expressing mood and emotion. The image has not gone away from his work, but has morphed into more of an abstract expressionist vision. PAIN’s goal now is to filter the turmoil and triumphs of adult life through the mesh of his artistic bent to create something more mercurial and subtle. His work has taken on the hum and fire of his surroundings and gained a new grit and dimension.

PAIN’s work has been on display at several venues in Chattanooga, Atlanta, and Dalton, including: Uncanny Evolution Gallery, Uncanny Inspirado group show, Skewed Vision group show, Contrapasso, Stone Cup, Mojo Burrito, iGNiS Glass Studio and Gallery, Chattacon, Frolicon Atlanta, The Dalton Creative Arts Guild Fall indoor show, and Michael’s Fine Arts and Framing.
